Once upon a time.... or back up your data, 2003-01-16, 6:55 a.m.

A story.

Once upon a time there was a girl. She would travel across the mighty kingdom in a worthy quest to spread her knowledge. One fact she choose to bestow on the workers of kingdom went as follows:

"Back up your data. Store it on G, not C and ensure that it's backed up."

As she continued her quest, the girl became a worker herself. As she set up her surroundings, she said to herself:

"Back up your data. Store it on G, not C and ensure that it's backed up."

One day, the girl began working at a place where the surroundings were already set. Thinking the previous workers had been listening, she did not check if they had heeded her words. Not until one fateful day when she noticed she could not access the precious data when she moved into a surrounding of her own. When approching her computer, she gasped, shocked they had not listened to her. The data was on C! It was not being backed up! All she had worked for could have been lost. She thought:

"Back up your data. Store it on G, not C and ensure that it's backed up."

And she did.

The following morrow, the girl had another at her original setting. They were using her computer. Suddenly it began to give a loud beep. This beep continued throughout the land until finally the girl slew the evil board of keys and scanner of bars that together tried to disrupt the silence of the book of rooms. At once, the computer began an awful indicator, one which scared the girl and all those around her. It indicated that it could not boot, could not find the magical file that would open its window the the data stored upon it.

The computer is no more. It must be restored magically and not everything will return to it. The girl sighed, realizing how very lucky she was to have to have listened to herself the day before. Thus, the moral of this story:

"Back up your data. Store it on G, not C and ensure that it's backed up."

So, um, yeah. My computer freaked out at work yesterday. Luckily I'd put the data that I need more than any other data on the network. I can't believe it wasn't on there before but damn, to have done that the day before.... I feel lucky and relieved. Back up your data. Just because. And that's the story for htis morning.
