100 Books Club

A couple notes, 2001-11-12, 5:35 p.m.

I think kids hate us. Or at least they would if they knew. We got the last two Harry Potter lego sets at Walmart today. The last two. We have 3 sets left to get and we have the collection. I don't know if they'll get more before Christmas. However, we got the last ones. Which is good for our collection. I just feel bad sometimes. I mean, we're adults. We can buy what we want - we don't have a lot of financial obligations. Kids don't have a lot of money. So, we can buy what we want - kids can't. There have been a few times where we've been in the lego section and we're going 'Got it, Got it, Got it, Got it' and a kid is staring longingly at a set, mentally counting their money to figure out how much longer it will be before they can buy it. Sometimes I just want to buy it for them. But, in the world we live in, we can't just do that. I'm going to buy something good for the boxes the global club is donating to the Happy Tree. Just because I feel bad. Somewhat. But then again, we do work for our money. As horrid and cliched as that sounds, we work for it and we've made certain decisions about it. We just choose to spend it a certain way. Perhaps, at one point, we were each a child, at a toy store, looking at what we wanted and counting our pennies. Perhaps that's how people reconcile their childhood dreams. Become big people with an inner childhood.

The news is scary. It's amazing - three months ago, had a plane crashed, we would have never have questioned. Now we do. Partygirl had an entry today that expressed how I feel about this all.

And, to quote an old friend of mine from New York who passed away a year or so ago... lets be careful out there. I don't care where he got it from, it was his line. And, please, hug someone you love.
