Night from hell by Ali and P, 2004-09-02, 9:41 a.m.

The night from hell occured last night. Well, it was a wonderful night followed by the night from hell.

We were having supper out at my parents house. My parents live 35 minutes away when you take the highway, 50 minutes away when you take the long way (give or take 10 minutes for each estimate). When we got out there, it was noticed that we had a leak in our tire - a nail had found its way into our tire and decided (thankfully) to stay. So it was a slow leak. However, we decided when we left (at 9:00) to drive the long way home.

As soon as we pulled out of the drive way, P. started crying. Hard. Something he rarely does. However, he'd had two short naps last night, not the several short ones he normally has, and he'd not snacked all night, just ate a little. So he was tired and hungry (and yes, I fed him before we left). He needed his mommy. Yes, not the use of the term mommy. He was overstimulated last night with many people looking at him and he was hungry.

However, first we thought that he was to warm. So we stopped and took off his sweater and hat. That didn't work. So we stopped at another place and I fed him. That didn't totally work. So we stopped at another place and fed him again. And that totally didn't work so we stopped at another place to feed him again. He kept screaming.

This was an unusual thing for our baby as well, he doesn't cry like that. He cried more last night that he usually does in a week. We stopped once more and I got out of the car to walk with him. See the only time he would stop crying is when I held him. And D. can't drive, so that wasn't an option. I just needed to make my baby ok for a minute. Give hima chance to rest his throat and perhaps remember what it's like not to cry.

That's when we realized something not so good. Remember that tire that was leaking? Well every time we stopped, it would leak the whole time. Leak so much that it made a high pitched sound (which was how it was first noticed) and made a dent in it. So the baby went back in the car seat and off we went again. I felt so ineffective.

Finally he stopped crying and slept. We got home around 10:30. He'd cried for about an hour and ten minutes of that, fed for 15 minutes of it and the rest he slept.

We were all happy to be home. So very happy. And we decided to make sure we're home around 7:30 when we go out to my parents house now. It felt good knowing I could make him stop crying, but horrid knowing I couldn't do anything.

I id go get the tire fixed this morning. The garage did it for free - the only good thing related to this whole night!

Right now P is on my lap, so here's his account of the night.
