The washing machine has a setting I was not aware of.

It's the 'not-enough-in-the-washer-so-it-all-shifts-to-the-side-and-bangs-around-while-scaring-the-person-and-cat-alone-in-the-house' setting.

The cat has just come out from behind the couch.
